First of all, we went to B's 4-month appointment yesterday. For those of you following his development, he is 20lbs, 9oz. and 28" long. Yep, he is the size of a healthy, proportional 9-month-old baby...but he's only 4.5-months-old. The key is that he's proportional in height and weight, 100th percentile in both, of course. Benjamin is currently wearing 12-18-month-old clothing. We've sped through our stash and are teetering on the edge of making our first baby clothes purchase. If only our child was NORMAL-sized, we'd have been completely set for his first year.
After much research and unit-pricing, I've decided that Babies R Us carries the least expensive store brand of diapers, "Especially for Baby." They are having a big sale on the value boxes, so I think I'm going to grab 2 boxes of size 5s. I figure B will be nearing that size around the middle of May. The unit price is only 17 cents per diaper! That's less than half of the price, per diaper, than the sale price of Pampers (our current brand.) We used gift cards and store credits for all of our diapers thus far, so we lived the high life in Pampers. Buh-bye, Pampers. We're moving on to the economical brands - this is a RECESSION!
My second realization this week is that I need to get WAY more serious about this solid food thing. I've been giving B about half of a container of pureed sweet potatoes or apples...per day. Ummm, that isn't going to get this kiddo moving the right direction...apparently. So when the pediatrician suggested that veggies are to be introduced last, and after that I can give him bits of table food (pureed,) I put two and two together: the kid needs to move towards meals of baby foods, not just the measly snacks I've been tossing his way.
I've decided that in order to make MY transition to feeding him more baby food, it would be best to "accidentally" trap his hands under the highchair tray so that he makes a minimal mess. Yes, I seem to channel the Teddy Jones genes here. Perhaps I'll loosen up as this whole process becomes more routine...yeah, right.
