Late afternoon on Friday I felt Benjamin's head, and he was a bit warm. I took his temperature to find that it was 99.something. By the time Ryan got home, around 6:30pm, B was acting strangely lethargic and clingy. I took his temperature to find that it was over 102. After an after-hours visit to the doctor's office, it was determined that B had a "sore throat virus." (Of course, this was a flashback to my days at A&M wherein I jeered at the on-campus docs for once diagnosing me with a mysterious "sore throat virus." I thought it was a joke.) Anyhow, after fluids and Tylenol, we put B down for bed. He slept a full twelve hours without any problems. In fact, I was so worried about him that I busted into his bedroom on Saturday morning and awoke him at 9am. He was, understandably, LIVID with me for the rest of the morning. My bad.
By some miracle, B was over his fever by Saturday afternoon. Perfectly fine. Perfect entertainer. He wore us out! Consequently, when we put him down for his nap at 1pm, we were relieved to have a break. So relieved, I hear, that he wasn't awoken until 6pm! (I was at a meeting, so Dada was on baby duty.) Notice that this means he napped for FIVE hours! I was a bit ummm.... curious... about how this might (not) work out. Sure enough, at 10pm when we got home from our Saturday night date night, B was still awake.
Although he went to bed shortly thereafter, MY wake-up call came at 4am this morning. Let's just say that wasn't fun. I had fantasies of sleeping until 9am, but they vanished. Ryan took over at 8am, and naps were enjoyed by all.
On a happier note, Ryan and Grumpa took B to the zoo today. From the looks of the pictures, B was a serious student of the animals therein. There was much cautious observation and little carefree enthusiasm. Nevertheless, he enjoyed the experience and looks forward to going back soon...with his mama...when there is no crowd...and the high temperature is below 74...and the bees are not buzzing. I'm sure the day will come... (Pictures will be posted soon!)
