Well, first we played a bit...
Nothing like an all out super hero war
Until Bekah released all the bad guys from the jail (how she did this without us knowing still baffles me) and the introduction of giant zoo animals to shake things up a bit.
After all the dust settled we headed down inside the loop to meet some friends for lunch - it was really good and it's always nice to spend some time with good people.
While we were down in that part of town, Mama planned a stop for us at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. It was Family Day so there were some things planned for the kiddos and there is also a Picasso exhibit in town.....and apparently we had free admission - because we arere members of the museum?!?
First, there was a class on pottery and a story that Benjamin enjoyed....and then there was a project that the kids were able to create a vase like what they had just seen in their pottery class. Within 0.385 seconds of the art clay was on her plate, Bekah had it en route to her mouth for a tasting.
Once we all created our masterpieces it was time to go look at some real ones.
I'll be the first to tell you that I know not the first thing about paintings other than there are some that are in color and some that are not and some that look like total nonsense are worth a small fortune.
This exhibit was called "Picasso: Black & White" which only featured had stuff he had done in - you guessed it - black and white. There were ~115 paintings and sculptures from throughout his career.
It was interesting to see how his styles changed over the course of his career (which I didn't realize spanned from the late-1800s through the 1960s). Not all of his stuff was weird, abstract, geometric shapes like I instantly associated with him - but a lot of it was.
Benjamin's review of the exhibit was pretty interesting....
"Look Dada, there are crescent shaped heads."and
"This is all so silly."Here's what a real fancy-pants review had to say. I definitely came away thinking more along the lines of Benjamin's thoughts - this boy speaks for the people.
After the art stuff we went by Jamba Juice, which is apparently a drink place that juices stuff for you (and also harvests some sort of sod that you take shots of). The weather was great so the kids had a great time sitting outside and enjoying their drinks.
From there it was straight off to Grammy & Grumpas for dinner.
It was an unusually busy Sunday, but certainly a memorable one.
