Here we go again with the birds. Remember last year when we had a cardinal nest in a bush about twelve inches from our front window? Similar story, minus the nest, add a death.
The briefing:
There was in injured bird in our yard. It was quite mobile, but it couldn't fly. Its companion was very vocal and watched out for the injured bird's well-being. So, we found out that the birds were mockingbirds...and that they are aggressive. The "well" bird below caught wind of me in the living room and sat watching me one afternoon...
Then we took to the internet and studied all about mockingbirds. They are, indeed, aggressive/protective, as we noticed when they tried to keep us out of the yard. They also mate for life. Oh, and they can recognize people they believe are predators. So, I was visually assaulted by this bird so much so that when we looked out the gameroom windows (upstairs) the aggressor would fly up to THAT window and warn me away. It was crazy. It was also sad as the male bird would chirp ALL day and night to protect its injured mate.
We were super into bird-watching for those few days. The binoculars were our BFFs. Even Bekah got in on the action. Sadly, due to Grammy's warning that mockingbirds were into "dive-bombing," we were (Ryan was) not able to save the injured bird. We anxiously watched when the lawn guys came a few days later. We all creepily stood in the windows with binoculars watching to see if the lawn guys would get dive-bombed or, ideally, somehow save the bird. Let's just say it didn't end that way...but we did totally creep out the lawn crew...
After they left, Ryan went to assess the damage. Notice him wearing a helmet and carrying a tennis racket. That's right, blow up this picture on your screen and save it for ransom...
Bekah never did get over looking for that bird...
