Mini Me

On Wednesday Bekah had her official eighteenth month check-up.  Per usual, she was precisely in the fiftieth percentile of height and weight.  We had all the right answers to all the many questions.  Despite my concerns about language, the doctor assured me that I was worrying over nothing.  Halleluiah! She thoroughly enjoyed entertaining me while we waited for the doc...
And, clearly, she enjoyed being naked.

It is so interesting having a daughter.  Benjamin and I share frequent chats about how to be a good person, happiness, evil, charity, contentment, gratitude, etc. He seems to take direction from me through our conversations.  Then came Bekah.  She follows me, checks on me, mimics me, questions me.  When I get dressed she watches me put on my make-up and jewelry, often wanting to participate herself.  She learns from me directly through my actions just as, I suppose, Benjamin learns through Ryan.  I am feeling a heightened sense of responsibility to communicate to her what it is and what it means to be a woman, mother, and wife.  It scares me that she will take answers before I can be sure they are correct.

Today, she wanted to wear a scarf as I was...

And her glittery shoes, and her hair bow, and her necklaces...
She eats what I eat, drinks what I drink, and reads as I read. Even when that is spicy Pappasito's salsa...

Today she even began to repeat a word or two.  She has always refused to repeat us as though it were beneath her, but just for a moment she decided it was time.  She is my companion, and just as she looks to me for direction, I look to her.  After all, she is the only one that truly knows if I am being the mother she needs and deserves.
