Forgive the few words, but our laptop is on the fritz. Keyboard is not responding...
We began our trip with five nights in Estes Park, staying at the same cabin we rented in January 2014. The view and the town access is unbeatable...
Sunday we had a chill day acclimating to the altitude. We walked into town for ice cream, taffy, and other goodies...
We stopped to dip our toes in the river behind the stores...
And while I hit up the stationary shop, Bekah fell into the water...
After some more shopping fun, we went home, made dinner, and headed into Rocky Mountain National Park. Trail Ridge Road took us HIGH into the mountains...
Bekah had a brawl with a marker. I would say she goes out like this at least 60% of the time...
We came upon a solitary elk...
And a few moments later, we found the herd...
It was SO COOL to hear them bugling...
They caused a HUGE traffic jam wherein a park ranger had to ask people to step away from the animals...
Seeing elk was Bekah's number one request. CHECK!
The next morning we woke EARLY to hike Alberta Falls. Parking was TOUGH in this third most visited national park...on JULY 4th...of the centennial year...but we made it...
The kids were in high spirits until about HERE:
This was the "Family Photo" at the peak of the falls...
There are no more pictures of Bekah on this hike because SHE GOT OVER IT...
But, after lunch, wine, and a nap (which Dada did not break from,) I took the kids to Trout Haven. Let me just put out there that even though I am getting noticeably tougher (hiking, camping, being outside generally as long as the temperature is below 75 degrees,) I yelled like an attack victim when we needed bait hooked or a fish unhooked...)
This was the first of B's TWO fish...
We hopped next door to the rainbow slide. At first, Bekah thought she would slide alone. I HEARD that there were tears when she was forced to actually descend...
The three of us slid down twice together, and then B took a lone shot...
After we cooked dinner and gathered the snacks and chairs, we headed down to the golf greens to set up for fireworks. And the running, chasing, and wrestling began...
Hmmm...
This should be a commercial... #JustinsHazelnutButter
The fireworks display was the best I have ever seen...
On Tuesday we headed into the park again to earn some Junior Ranger badges...
They really have an incredible program at this park...
Jr. Ranger Benjamin
Jr. Ranger Bekah
We went back into town and hit up the new playground. SO glad they have this central play structure now!
Someone sneaked some movie time. But she was quiet, so no one really cared...
Wednesday morning we were excited to walk BACK down to town for the annual Rooftop Rodeo Parade!
And then we headed back to the Park for a short hike around Bear Lake...
B scaled a rock...and then slid down...
Bekah needed a snack, so she and I stayed back while the boys took the Nymph Lake hike that we had snowshoed 18 months prior. Very lovely...
We ended the evening with some grotesque Mexican food and a GREAT Rooftop Rodeo!
Tidbits...
Ryan and Bekah on the hammock...
Elk traffic jam...
Fish cleaning...
Morning torture...
