Last weekend was Benjamin's first Memorial Day experience. Appropriately enough, we were in Washington D.C. Yes, folks, this means we did the anxiety-inducing task of packing up an "infant" and caging him on a plane for hours at a time. I was sure it would be no problem...until Larry (my father-in-law) reminded me of all of the ear problems that could occur while flying. My ears pop every time I swallow, so this never really occurred to me; however, once it did, I consumed with worry. Would Baby B be alright? Would I mess up on the timing of the on-flight feedings, just to leave him in deafening pain for days on end? Probably. That is except for the little known reality that B is the most easy going baby EVER. (You won't hear me brag that he's perfect or that he's a little Einstein, but it is objectively indisputable that he is the easiest baby that could ever exist. Total luck.)
Add up all the worries and realities, and the experience was flawless. No crying at all. We did have short layovers in both directions (because I'm cheap, and it saved $100 per ticket.) Over the course of all four flights he slept for a total of three-fourths of the plane experience. I'd be proud but for the fact that it had NOTHING to do with me.
It's time to put him down for a nap, but I'll continue the update later. I took lots of pictures, but Ryan says technical difficulties have prevented him from uploading them. I PROMISE we'll resolve those this weekend.
