Excitement

Yesterday was Benjamin's first day back at pre-school.  He was already awake and in the kitchen when I came downstairs to leave for work, so I called him over and squatted down to his height to give him a hug and a kiss and to wish him good luck at school.

When I asked him if he was looking forward to it, his response was the most genuine I've ever received.  A huge smile crossed his face, he raised up on his tip-toes and kind of bounced a little, and his arms went up in front of him bent at 90 degree angles. It was like he was about to burst.

He gave me this wonderful expression, where he squinted his eyes a little but at the same time raised his eyebrows, and then proclaimed, "I am SO excited!  I get to see Kaya and Cappy and Jack AND Hudson!"

As he stressed the word "SO" his arms curled a bit at the elbow and then he emphatically shook his hands once to emphasize his point.  That last bit - "AND" - was as if to say "three friends from last year is great - but four is just too much to ask for".

It was another one of those moments in time that you want to lock away and never forget - the sparkle and gleam in his eye are something that, as parents, you can only wish for.

Life is good.
